But did you know that the roots of this famous race can be traced all the way back to the Wright brothers’ visit to Le Mans in 1908?

In that year, the Wright brothers had already made aviation history with their famous flight at Kitty Hawk in 1903. They were invited to France to demonstrate their flying machine at the Hunaudieres racecourse, located just outside of Le Mans and still used by the drivers during the race….. It is said that during their visit, the Wright brothers also attended the French Grand Prix, which was held at the same racecourse.

It was during this visit that the Wright brothers witnessed the first running of the French Grand Prix, an event that would eventually evolve into the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Fast forward a few decades to 1923, when the first 24 Hours of Le Mans was held at the same Circuit de la Sarthe where the Wright brothers had witnessed the French Grand Prix. The race was initially created as a way to test the endurance of both drivers and cars, and it quickly became one of the most challenging and prestigious races in the world.
