G400 test flight

As Gulfstream began the delivery of their new G700 aircraft, the first prototype of Gulfstream’s new business jet, the G400, made its maiden flight on August 15, 2024. Despite a slight delay from the initial schedule, Gulfstream anticipates certification in 2025.

Gulfstream Aerospace announced that the brand new Gulfstream G400 successfully completed its first flight, officially launching the flight test program. Initially planned for late 2023, the first flight was delayed by a few months. However, Gulfstream remains confident in its projections to achieve certification in 2025.

The G400 prototype, powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW812GA engines, took off from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport for a flight lasting 2 hours and 54 minutes. The business jet reached a speed of Mach 0.85 and an altitude of 41,000 feet (12,497 meters). A mixture of Jet-A1 and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) was used for this test flight.

The G400, which notably shares the wings of the G500/G600, has a range of 4,200 nautical miles (7,778 kilometers) at Mach 0.85.

The G400’s engine, the PW812GA, was certified by the Canadian civil aviation regulator in September 2022. In preparation for its certification, Pratt & Whitney Canada had tested the PW812GA for 3,400 hours, including 260 hours in flight.

With a list price of 34.5 million dollars, the G400 completes Gulfstream’s catalog and becomes the entry-level jet in the high-end segment of the North American manufacturer. The new business jet was announced in 2021 alongside the G800, whose tests are expected to begin in 2025.

The Gulfstream jets currently available for charter with JetFlo include the G150, the G200, the G280, the G-IV/SP ; the G450, the GV, the G500, the G550 ; the G600, the G650ER and the G700.
