Gstaad

Often referred to as the “Playground of the Royals,” Gstaad often tops the list for Switzerland as well as being one of the worlds most luxurious ski resorts. The village is chosen by stars such as John Travolta and Roger Federer due to its serene and discreet natures. It is also home to some of Switzerlands most famous hotels such The Alpina and The Grand Bellevue. Most vacationers arrive via the nearby Saanen airport. Zermatt

Under the shadows of the Matterhorn just 6 miles from the Italian border lies Zermatt, the highest winter sports area in the Alps. Accessibility to Zermatt can be done via Sion airport, however a transfer time of 1h 30 mins is required which makes the journey to Zermatt a little more difficult than other resorts. Skiers can also opt for a scenic train ride up the mountain or helicopter transfer from Sion airport which can shorten the journey to just 15 mins.

St Moritz

Home of the famous White Turf horse race and Snow Polo event, this iconic resort in the Engadin Valley is known as the birthplace of Alpine winter sports. This iconic resort in the Engadine Valley has been a winter playground for the elite since the late 19th century and is known for its diverse ski offering which caters for all levels. The closest airport to St. Moritz is Samedan Airport, situated about 5 kilometers (approximately 3 miles) northwest of St. Moritz.

Verbier

With a large amount of off-piste ski and the challenging Mont Fort glacier, Verbier is ideal for those seeking an adrenaline packed holiday while also enjoying the luxury and charm of the Swiss Alps. Verbier possess a more youthful energy and its architecture a more contemporary allure. Every year, Verbier hosts the final of the Freeride World Tour as part of the Xtreme event. After touring the planet, the world’s best freeriders come together for the final round of the competition on the legendary “Bec des Rosses”, culminating at an altitude of 3,222 metres. The narrow corridors and extreme slopes of the north face ensure a breathtaking show. Verbier also plays host to multiple musical and cultural events such as The Verbier Festival, an international classical music event taking place each summer. For transport, the nearest airport is again Sion, with a transfer time of about 1h 30 mins. Helicopters are also available which can reduce the transfer time to just 10 mins.

Grimentz

Lesser known than its neighbour Crans-Montana, Grimentz is ideal for those looking for the authentic Swiss ski experience in a more low-key setting. The sleepy town of Grimentz is set to awaken in the coming years with several high-end developments planned to take place. Skiers can hop on a private flight to Sion airport with only a half hour transfer at the other side to reach this hidden gem.
